99dollarmusicvideos.com encourages the audience by showing them that to
make a music video, you don't need to be wealthy, all that is needed is a
decent camera and for you to be creative and to have a lot of new and
unique ideas.
this is a great example because all that was had to be payed for was the camera, books and mustache. the idea, plan and creativity that was put into this music video was incredible as the story that was being shown was not the most extraordinary but it made clear and i thought that this music video was wonderful. the camera language that was being used made the music video more entertaining because the camera rarely stayed still because it was always moving.
Is it possible to make a professional quality music video for $99?
I thing that it is very possible to make a professional quality music video if you have the creativity and good ideas to make one.
this is a music video that i thought seemed to be professional that was done with the budget of $99. in the music video the camera is always moving and as it keeps going, there are always objects that jumps in front of the camera such as in 0.40. this music video makes the audience feel as if they are in the video and it feels like a journey. this music video promotes the rock genre but mainly because of the song.
Andrew Goodwin Theory
Andrew Goodwin made theory about rules of music video and the difference between the music video and the message that the artist is trying to spread out. His theory implies that the relationship of the visual and the song are built between the close-ups of the artists which gives the artist the representation that is needed. The
relationship between the lyrics and video are shown through the visuals
in the music video which amplifies, illustrates and contradicts the
lyrics of the artist. voyeurism is used to increase the music video's attractiveness and this is mainly used for males so that the video would get more views and it is getting more popular so now there are many music videos that are using voyeurism. intertexual is when the a different type of media such as films or TV link to the music video, this is usually humorous and keeps the audience
entertained. the record label usually include a various amount of close ups in the artist
music videos so that the it is clear who the artist is and it makes the artist the main person and for the audience to feels more closer to the artist. the genre of a music video changes everything about the song and the music video because if the genre would be pop, the artist would be wearing glamorous clothes and expensive accessories where as for hip-hop, the artist would be wearing baggy clothes, bandanas, snap-back and tattoos but that is mostly iconography, so there for the genre would change the music video dramatically but mainly the characteristics of the artist.
illustrating
Illustrating is when the video shows exactly what the lyrics are saying and it gives the music video a short film vibe to it. this would be an example of illustrating as it shows the artist getting drunk. the lyrics and the visual go very well together as it is shown on 1.18 when the lyrics said "I'll get drunk again" and the video shows the artist drinking. i think that this is a good illustrating music video as the lyrics is generally about getting drunk and that is what the artist does in the video. This is a very good example of illustrating as through out the whole
video she is pretty much showing what the lyrics are saying. to make the video more entertaining, they added a cat to the video and gave it human features, for example, from 0.40 the cat was acting like it was the artist best friend by helping him and playing games with him. however, this music video is repetitive at times such as 0.38, it shows the opening a can to drink and it shows the same on 0.43 (5 seconds after the first). illustrating music video usually sticks in the audiences head and is also successful, this music video was successful with more then 16million views on YouTube.
amplifying
amplification is used to make the audience feel the mood of the song. this usually works with sad, slow and emotional songs because most audience would be able to relate to it and it would also make the audience feel down.
the music video that i have chosen is an emotional and blue song and it is shown on 0.40 when the tempo of the song slows down and the drumming stops and that makes the lyrics more clear and because most of the instruments stops and slows down. on 1.45 the lyrics said "oh I never meant to cause you trouble, And oh and I never meant to do you wrong" which gives the audience a sorry type of feeling. the body language from that start at 0.45 added more effect because the artist is looking down and dejected and the audience gets the same feeling. the visual and lyrics go very well together for this song as both sends out a troubled feeling. the song on its own are very powering and it makes you think about someone you miss or had troubles with and the video also helps because of the face expressions and what is shown on the video.
contradicting
contradicting means when the visual and lyrics have no relationship what so ever and there is nothing in the lyrics that is shown in the music video, the visual and song work against each-other.
this music video is a great example of contradicting as the visual has nothing to do with the song. the video makes the audience pay more attention on the video and and not the song. this makes the audience feel as if they are watching an actual tennis match but the song makes the music video bizarre because the song makes the video confusing. the video itself makes the audience watch the tennis match, this might be because the song fades out as they are concentrating more on the tennis but this music video was very successful with 47,030,005 views on YouTube.
iconography
iconography means the specific type of clothing or accessory that the artist have. this relates to the genre as the genre of a music video changes
everything about the song and the music video because if the genre would
be pop, the artist would be wearing glamorous clothes and expensive
accessories where as for hip-hop, the artist would be wearing baggy
clothes, bandanas, snap-back and tattoo.
Eminem is know for his style of clothes and for his rapping and because of the type of clothes that he wears, there are many people who wear the same types of clothes that he wear and mimics him. in 0.48, Eminem and his crew wears the typical baggy shirts and trousers that most hip-hop and rapping artist always wear. these types of artist and music videos are usually all based on cars, gangsters, baggy clothes, jewelry and money but this music video adds some humor to it.
close-ups
close-ups are mainly used to get the image of the artist and to show who the main person in the music video is. close-ups also makes a good effect to the music video as the audience would feel closer to the artist.
the first shot of this music video was a close-up of the artist and that makes a good effect as the music because usually, a music video starts with shots of the landscape and area that they are in. the close-up of the dove in 0.21 makes a great effect and an impact because there are not many shots like that in other music videos and it goes with the song as it is wonderful. through out the music video, the artist shows the audience some shots of wonderful objects and people such as in 0.16 when there was a lady with an amazing tattoo on her back. there are many close-ups of the dove like on 1.12 which could mean that the artist is a person who advocates peaceful or conciliatory and that could be the message that he is spreading out.
voyeurism
voyeurism is when mainly females are exposed in music videos to attract curtain viewers and to keep gaining viewers. these types of music video keeps the audience entertained and keeps the audience watching.
this music video is a great example of voyeurism as it has women with limited clothes on from start to end. the video is certainly aimed at males because it has everything that a typical male would like such as guns on 0.21, cars on 0.35 and exposed women throughout the video. we imminently get their attention from 0.20 when the artist uses a sniper to spy on the woman but it is also when the beat and tempo of the song increase. this type of music video is mainly aimed at males and to keep them entertained, in this way, the video will get many views and all the males would have a pleasure watching the video. as you go on through the video, at 2.06 there are a group of women in a room and performing with tight and short clothing, this implies that the women in the video are objects to make the audience feel pleasure and because the majority of the audience are males, they would feel as if they are looking down on the women as well.
This is a performance music video because it shows just the artists dancing and it shows just them performing in the music video. this type of music video feels affective to the audience because it feels as if they you are there and they are dancing in-front of you. the artist have been dancing throughout the music video and this is why it is a performance music video, they started dancing at 0.08 and kept on dancing since then. music video such as this do not come very often and i think that the performing type of video are lively. this video has got 1,034,732 which is not of a big success as their others but it is still good.
Narrative
this music video seems to be narrative because the music video tells a story and it shows you a type of film. It also keeps the audience watching the video as they want to know whats going to happen next. the artist has added humour to the music video and that is why it could be very successful. the music video at the start shows a comic book effect from when there was a boy 0.09 until the music video finishes. the first shot of the music video also makes you think that you are attached to the music video because it shows you a scene in the studio and it seemed as if they were starting a show because the actor was counting down from 0.01 to 0.06 throughout the video, there are various scenes that are entertaining and amusing, this could makes the audience want to continue watching the video and also like the song. the music video has got 94,191,605 views from YouTube which is very successful.
Interpretative
i chose this music video because the lyrics and the video went together really well and it was like a short film. the music video showed someone that needed help from his problem and him going to someone and trying to solve it, the lyrics tells the story and it all suited each-other and it made it clear. It also keeps the audience watching the video as they want to know whats going to happen next. it will also impact the audience as it helps them understand what is happening so they can keep up.the audience feels like they are watching a short story and what made it entertaining was because it was funny, affecting and captivating. this music video has got 13,362,043 view in YouTube and counting.
Impressionist
i thought that this music video was unique because the video gave you the view and the eye of the ball. it shows us the perspective of the ball and that makes this music video different from all the other music videos. This is where the video that is being shown do not match themood and pace of the song.this is original and because of that, the music video sticks in your mind. it seems as if you are taking a journey and that makes an impact on the audience and i thought that this would be a great Impressionist music video as it makes the audience feel like they are a part of the video. this music video was a success as it has got 3,108,812 views in YouTube.
Surrealism/ Abstract
this was a great abstract example for an abstract music video as it has effects that seems to be from the future. the reason why the music video is abstract is because at 0.07, there were robots working on a futuristic machine that i shown on 0.05. the video pulls you in because it shows you something new and the effects also grab you in. the video also shows you and sends out a message, this could be because he wants to get something across and it has worked because the video has got 85,760,650 views on YouTube. the effects that has been used made unusual but it won the audience and that could be because the video was entertaining. the impact that the music video would have on the audience is that they would be surprised but entertained because they would not understand what is happening all the time so they would keep watching the video to see how it would end.
Animation ( stop motion and digital)
cartoons are extremely important and magnetic to children so this music video by the Gorillaz attracts the young audiences. To create a animation music video, the artist has to be creative and artistic becauseto make the music video successful, the video has to be entertaining enough to bring in the audience. This music video is unique because there are very few animated music videos and and this would get famous to different types of audiences, people that likes comics and people who likes rock. this types of video feels as if you are watching a short cartoon and that could be why it would bring in some young audience. the music video has got 8,771,182 which is pretty good for this type of video.
parody
parody is a more funny and comical video than the official music video. parody is famous on YouTube as people search it for entertainment and it is really successful because even if they are not accurate, it will still be an entertainment.people makes a video that is similar to the official music video but adds a little twist to it that would make the video entertaining. the parody video that i have chosen makes a lot of changes from the official such as changing the words, for example, on 0.44, the actor said 'i don't know you, and you look crazy, you look like a dude, and your eyes are lazy' which is completely different to the official words of the song but it still fits in well with the song and music.
i thought that this video was an extremely good music video because all of the effects explode out of the screen and that is what makes this video unique. the video has simple effect but just because that there are a huge number of effects popping out every tenth of a second, it makes you keep on wanting to look at the video. from the start of the video, there as a calm vibe and there is not much that is happening but in 01.05, there is a burst of colours from there and onwards. the artist had a good idea of making the lyrics as the effects because it would be hard to keep the audience entertained with plain and blank words floating the screen but the artist added colours, made different fonts, and a lot of movement as well that made the video successful. however, the music video is not recommended to people with photosensitive epilepsy so therefore, the music video would not get the most views that they could get. the music video has got 74,699,401 views in Youtube and still raising.
bad
i thought that this video had bad effects because it seemed too childish and fake, this means that the music video would reach out to a specific group of audience. i thought that the video didn't have anything special in it and that it was too basic. the video didn't pop out of the screen and there was nothing extraordinary. to make the music video better, the artist could add in more colour and make more effects that would keep the viewer entertained. i think that this is a decent video but it could be improved to gain more and different viewers. the video also seems to be rough and not smooth, for example, in 01.15 in the scene of the aliens running, it does not flow properly and it does not run smoothly.
large number of cuts
good
i chose this video because i thought that the it was fast pasted and there was many movement going on. this makes the video more entertaining and not dull and boring because when there are many cuts in a video, the is a lot to look at and it wont just be the same shot with the same background and because of this, the viewer will always be looking at the video because new shots and scenes will be show.from the start to 0.35, there are more then 30 cuts with 3 fades and that would keep the audience entertained because they with many cuts, the will always be new scenes that the viewer would be able to see so they will be attached to the video.
bad
This video here is a bad example of a number of cuts because there are rarely a cut in the video. for example, from the start to 1.00, there were only 2 cuts and that makes the music video dull and boring because there wound be anything new to look at and there wouldn't be anything that would entertain the viewer. the type of audience that would watch this music video would be people that are dedicated to Labrinth or Emeli Sande because there will not be a lot of people that would watch the artist sit or stand and just singing. however from 1.15 and on there are more cuts on the video.
cutting to the beat
good
this is a good video for cutting to the beat because the the video goes with the music very well and in most times, the video cuts when the beat of the music changes which makes the viewer engaged and it also makes you head bounce. this artist is more experienced and he knows how to make the video better. this video was very successful because of the music and also because the video goes with it. so the video also helps the music and they both match. in 02.40 the music builds up and as the beat picks up and kicks in, the video also kicks in at 02.58.
bad
Music video that do not cut to the beat could be confusing because the viewer would not feel too attached to the video where as if the video would cut to the beat, the viewer would feel more engaged to the video and more involved. this music video has a lot of camera techniques but is at times, the video do not cut to the beat so that does not make the video flow very well. for example, from 0.35 to 0.45, i couldn't see any cutting to the beat but there were angles and movement that was being used which made the video better. this music video has got 53,100,244 views on YouTube only half of the viewers would be looking at the music video because the video does not make the viewer feel involved or engaged with it.
varied camera language
good
i chose this music video because it had all the camera techniques that could be used from close ups to panning. this video keeps the viewer entertained by adding new stuff to the video and new scenes, this helps because it makes the audience engage with the video. having more camera language makes the video more affective and that impresses the audience. in some ways, the video is also stimulating because it goes well with the music and there is also a short story being told. if this video didn't have any camera language, it wouldn't be as much successful and it would just be boring and unexciting.
bad
i chose this music video because it only has one shot and no camera language or any effects. the video is not necessarily bad because the artist entertains the audience by performing. this music video is already very successful with 351,356,114 views, this is because it is unique and stands out from other music video because it is simple and has nothing special. the artist is also singing in-from of the camera so it makes the viewer feel as if they are there with him. i think that the video could be a bit better by adding some more camera language such as a close up to make the the video to be more improved.
green screen
good
green screen is used to change the background on a video, and in this music video, the artist did it very well. the background might of not been the best choise but there is no faults or errors which makes and most video find it hard to get it perfect. even this is a simple green screen effect, the background makes the video a little bit better but it could imply about someone being stuck in a fantasy world than a reality.
bad
i thought that this video used the green screen well and had an excellent idea of what to do. in the start of the video, it feels as if you are there and engaged in the video because you can hear the director and what is happening. the video was extremely affective and amusing because it makes the audience think about how they have done that and what is happening so the video could also be thought-provoking. the only down side to the video is that at times, the legs do not match up and you could also see parts of the green screen like in 01.20. however, apart from the little mistakes, this video could be really entertaining and great to watch because the video makes you think about how they made it like on 1.10 when the legs moved on to another person.
lip-synching
good
this music video is had great lip synching and i think that it is because the song is slow and calm. the artist also makes you feel more engaged to the video my adding movement to the video like in 02.05. What makes the lip-synching good it that the artist mouth is not loose and the timing is perfect. this could be because the artist was singing the song at the same time.
bad
bad lip synching is when the artist is not in time with the video so then it would look like a music playing and a person saying something different to the words in the song. this could effect the video massively if the lip synching of the music video is bad because every viewer would find it annoying and think that the artist is not taking the work seriously. i have chosen Flo Rida because all of his songs are fast paced and and most people find it hard to keep up to songs that are fast paced. an example of this would be on 0.40 to 1.00 because at times he misses the word but he covered it well by always having a cut in the middle where he raps. the reason why he could of cut in the middle of the rap might be because he couldn't do it well so he covered it with a cut. this is a good video with 26,236,437 views on YouTube.
